Our CMD Treatment
CMD treatment/jaw treatment
Craniomandibular dysfunction (CMD) refers to a malfunction in the interaction of the jaw joint, chewing muscles and adjacent structures, which is often accompanied by pain and restricted movement. In our physiotherapy practice, we offer targeted CMD treatments to alleviate these symptoms. Using special techniques and exercises, we help to restore the balance between the jaw and muscles and improve the quality of life of our patients.
When does CMD treatment make sense?
CMD treatment is useful when symptoms such as jaw joint pain, jaw clicking, headaches or neck tension occur. Patients who suffer from chronic tension in the jaw and neck area can particularly benefit from CMD therapy. The therapy can also help to relieve symptoms and normalize jaw function if you grind your teeth at night or have problems opening and closing your mouth.
How do CMD symptoms arise?
CMD symptoms arise from a dysregulation of the jaw joint and the chewing muscles. The causes can be varied, for example:
Teeth grinding (bruxism), which leads to tension in the chewing muscles.
Misalignments of the teeth or jaw that increase pressure on the jaw joint.
Stress that leads to unconscious tension in the jaw muscles.
Posture problems that affect the muscles of the neck and jaw and can lead to tension.
These factors can cause pain in the jaw, head, neck and back area as well as limited mobility of the jaw.
What is done in CMD therapy?
In CMD therapy, we use targeted physiotherapy techniques to loosen the muscles and improve joint function. These include:
Manual techniques that mobilize the jaw joint and relax tense chewing muscles.
Targeted exercises to strengthen the muscles in the jaw, neck and throat area and improve mobility.
Posture improvement to correct poor posture that contributes to TMD.
Jaw relaxation techniques that help patients reduce tension in the jaw area in everyday life.
